临高县位于海南岛西北部，全境东西宽34公里，南北长47公里，行政区域土地面积1299平方公里。临高土地资源丰富，地势平坦，土壤肥沃，雨量充沛，具有得天独厚的农业发展条件，素有“鱼米之乡”美称。海岸线长116公里，有金牌、新盈、调楼、黄龙等天然优良港口，浅海滩涂面积5333公顷，发展海水养殖条件优越，海洋捕捞业发达，是全省重要的渔业生产县，有“海南餐桌每三条鱼中就有一条是临高渔民打来的”的美誉。2021年5月，根据第七次人口普查主要数据，临高县常住人口数量为42.1万人，位列海南省各市县人口数量排行榜第10位,其中100岁及以上老人189人，占总人口每10万人比例为44.9/100000，超过了联合国规定每10万人比例为7.5/100000的百岁老人长寿指数要求，2021年12月16日，临高通过联合国积极老龄化专家委员会评审，认证为“世界长寿乡”。
Lingao County is located in the northwest of Hainan Island. It is 34 kilometers wide from east to west and 47 kilometers long from north to south, Administrative region covers an area of 1299 square kilometers. Lingao is rich in land resources because of its flat terrain, fertile soil and abundant rainfall. It has unique conditions for developing agriculture and is known as " a land flowing with milk and honey ". The coastline is 116 kilometers long. There are ports with excellent geographical locations such as Jinpai, Xinying, Diaolou and Huanglong. The shallow beach area is 5,333 hectares, which is perfect for the development of marine aquaculture and marine fishing industry. It is an important fishery production county for the province. It is said that “Out of every three fish enjoyed on the table, one is caught by Lingao fishermen". In May 2021, according to the main data of the seventh census, Lingao County had a population of 421,000, ranking 10th in all the cities and counties of Hainan Province. There are 189 elderly people aged 100 and above, accounting for 44.9% of the total population per 100,000 people, which exceeds the UN requirement of 7.5% per 100,000 people for the longevity index of the centenarians.On December 16, 2021, Lingao passed the evaluation of the United Nations Expert Committee on Active Aging and was certified as "the hometown of longevity in the world".
